Review 2009
More exhibitors, more choice, and more visitors at metall München
2009
- metall München received 20,678 trade visitors
- Double-digit percental increase in visitors, exhibitors and hall space occupied
- metall München sets an excellent example in spite of the economic downturn
- Over 500 young people took an interest in the participation programme at the training and education area
For four days, Munich set a strong example for the metal working industry. Here,
more than 26,600 visitors informed themselves about the range of
products of 295 exhibitors.
This result represents an increase of 21 percent in visitor numbers.
It is for this reason that metall München 2009 was Germany’s most
visited trade fair of its kind in the first quarter of the year. This year,
a total of 8 percent of visitors came from abroad (2007: 9 percent), mainly from Austria,
Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.
The rise in exhibitors (+ 23 percent) and hall space occupied (+ 39
percent) also reinforce this incredibly satisfying outcome.
”The show was much more successful than we anticipated. Such excellent
results were completely underestimated, in view of the current economic climate. Metall
München has come out on top as a stable anchor in a difficult sea. Therefore,
the traditional location of Munich has again proven itself as the right place for
the metal working industry”, says Dieter Dohr, Chairman of the Executive Board
of GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen.
These results are all the more positive, when considered alongside the number
of orders placed at metall Muenchen, especially in contrast to current market interpretations
made by exhibitors. On the one hand, 22 percent (2007: 2 percent) of exhibitors assessed
the current economic situation as bad.
On the other hand, according to surveys of an independent opinion research institute,
67 percent of trade visitors stated, that they will be placing
orders as a result of this year’s metall München. Trade visitors
were highly satisfied with the overall evaluation of the show. 82 percent
of interviewees rated the show as “excellent to good” –
compared to 68 percent in 2007.
The content of the show was particularly celebrated with its emphasis
on machine tools, precision tools, measuring technology and services.
“We are tracing our success back to our trade fair concept. The early
date every other year, the clear regional focusing on Southern Germany with the neighbouring
states Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Slovenia, as well as the clear
user orientation, all provide the recipe for success of metall München. In this
way, we are accomplished in inspiring trade as well as industry. Let’s take
by way of example the BVM-Welt des Bundesverbands Metall (German Metal Association),
which has clearly shown the close connection of both economic sectors in the supplier
industry “, remarks Dohr.
Exhibitor and visitor statements also confirm that this trade fair concept has
been adopted by the market. Both exhibitors and trade visitors of metall München
praised the concurrently running IHM PROFI (11 – 15 March 2009), within the
framework of the Internationalen Handwerksmesse. They profited from the large overlap
of both trade shows.
“Pimp your future” training and education area along with the BVM-Welt
are additional attractions to the European Trade Fair for metal working. Over 500
young people participated actively in the rally.
